What LizArk Rail does
LizArk Rail creates parametric railings along any path, edge, stair, or slope inside SketchUp. It supports metal baluster, designer metal, glass panel, cable, rod, solid panel, and fully custom SKP-section systems. Output is organized into groups such as Posts, Balusters, Handrail, Glass Panels, Cables, Rods, and Custom Railing.
Railing systems
- Metal Baluster - posts with vertical or horizontal metal bars.
- Designer Metal - ornamental bar panels with frame gaps.
- Glass - framed or frameless glass panels with base channels.
- Cable - posts with multiple cable runs.
- Rod - posts with rod runs.
- Solid Panel - posts with solid infill panels.
- Custom Railing - repeats imported SKP sections along the path.
Pick or draw a path
Select existing edges, edges inside groups/components, or use Draw Rail Path to create a new polyline. For stairs, use Draw Stair Path and pick only the key break points; Stair Mode insets the railing inward and follows the slope automatically.
Configure the railing
- Height and path offset.
- Direction: left, right, or both sides of the path.
- Posts: width, depth, spacing, end/corner posts, materials or textures.
- Handrail: round/rectangular/square, size, material presets or custom textures.
- Balusters: enable, width, spacing, texture/color.
- Stair Mode: follow slope, step setback, step clearance.
Custom assets
Import SKP posts, balusters, or repeating sections into the asset library. Browse by type, search, sort, and preview thumbnails. Custom textures can be applied to posts and handrails by importing JPG/PNG/BMP/TIFF files.
Edit & regenerate
Select an existing LizArk Rail group and open Edit Selected LizArk Rail to adjust parameters. Use Regenerate to rebuild the railing with current settings while keeping the same path.
Cut list / BOM
Run Cut List to export a bill of materials with counts and lengths for posts, balusters, handrails, cables, rods, glass panels, and custom sections. This helps with ordering and estimating.
