What Auto Stair Direction does

Auto Stair Direction is a lightweight tool that lets you choose the spiral direction of automatically generated stairs before the stair object is created. It updates a single configuration value and then hands off to StairBuilder to produce the geometry. The tool does not draw geometry itself - it is a quick direction setter and launcher.

Why direction matters

Stairs that turn clockwise and stairs that turn anti-clockwise can produce very different spatial results in a floor plan. The direction affects landing placement, handrail side, headroom clearances, and how the stair fits against walls. Choosing the direction before generation is faster than rotating or rebuilding the stair after it is placed.

Tool controls

Activate the tool from the LizArk toolbar or menu. The status bar shows the current spiral direction.

Press Tab or any arrow key (Left, Right, Up, Down) to toggle between Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise. Each press flips the setting and updates the status bar.

Press Enter to generate the stairs with the selected direction. StairBuilder reads the saved direction when it builds the stair geometry.

Press Esc to cancel and return to the SketchUp select tool without generating anything.

Status bar and VCB

The status bar displays the current direction and the available controls: Auto Stairs Tool: Tab/Left/Right/Up/Down toggle direction | Enter generate | Esc cancel | Direction: Clockwise (or Anti-Clockwise).

The Measurements box / VCB also shows the current direction label, so you can confirm the setting at a glance before pressing Enter.

Workflow tips

Use this tool whenever the LizArk stair generator needs a specific spiral direction. If you cancel, the last chosen direction remains saved in the configuration and will be used for the next generation.

Combine this tool with wall layout before generating stairs. A clockwise flight against one wall may need to become anti-clockwise when mirrored across a corridor.

You can change direction as many times as you like before pressing Enter. The geometry is only created at generation time.
