What Trace Window does
Trace Window places a 2D window marker on a traced plan. The marker includes a center line across the wall pair, a text label such as W36 or W48, and a 2D visual opening symbol on the Xpress3D-TraceOpeningSymbols layer. During Generate 3D, these markers become actual window openings and library assemblies.
All snapping and width behavior comes from Trace Opening Base.
Window template widths

- Template 2 - 36"
- Template 3 - 48"
- Template 4 - 72"
Custom widths
You can type any positive value into the VCB. The entered width is saved under window_width_default and is used as the starting width the next time Trace Window launches.
If Manual trace scale is enabled, the visible width is multiplied by the configured scale factor.
Placing the marker
Hover between two parallel wall edges. The blue preview rectangle shows the intended opening.
Click to place the line, label, and window symbol. The symbol size is calculated from the matched wall-pair gap unless a manual scale is active.
The side of the wall pair you click on determines the marker normal direction used by the 3D generator.
After tracing
Window markers remain 2D until Generate 3D is run. The visual symbol layer is for reference only and is not converted to geometry.
Keep the labeled line and text on the trace_windows layer so the generation pass can find them.
